It's Cookbook Time, and My First Blog Giveaway!

My cookbook is finally done, and I have never felt so happy to have completed a project. You know, I am amazed at these chefs who produce these massive cookbooks amongst other things. I mean I realize they are not taking their pictures, editing and typing up the book, but jeez it is a lot of work. The funny thing is the cookbook is relatively small in size. I really didn't have a choice to make it much bigger because self publishing is pretty expensive. The cost of the book alone is more than something being mass produced, so I kept the page count low so that people could easily afford to buy it. It really was an awesome experience (and also time consuming, but worth every minute). I honestly never thought I would be able to do it, but it is something I have wanted to do since I started High School. The reason I decided to just go for it was because of Toby. He is such an encouragement to me, and inspires me to live out my dreams. I love him to death, and am so thankful he pushes me to go for my dreams.

That being said, I am doing my first blog Giveaway! I am giving away the very first copy of the cookbook. It is the first edition softcover. The contest starts now, and ends November 3rd. All you have to do is leave a comment telling me your favorite thanksgiving tradition, and you are in the raffle. I will choose at random on November 3rd. I am so excited to finally have a giveaway, and I hope to see some comments! Also, you will get double credit for posting something to facebook or twitter. Just leave a comment saying so, and your a two chances closer! Have a great Halloween weekend!

  1. Our tradition is to have a pumpkin crisp. On both my side and my husband's die this is what they want instead of pumpkin pie. It is delicious.

  2. With my husband's family, we have fresh turkey and deer. (provided by the family hunters!) and with my family, we always enjoy a good game of spades after the huge turkey dinner.....that of course includes homemade stuffing *my favorite*

  3. I think my favorite Thanksgiving tradition is to eat! And Elliott's family really knows how to do that. The entire bar is covered with food. The only change this year is that I will be making a few dishes that keep in line with my eating habits so I won't feel left out. Maybe I'll convert some people while I'm at it!

Great job on the cookbook. I'm so excited for all the great things you and Toby are doing. You both are accomplishing your dreams and it really is an inspiration.

  4. My favorite thanksgiving tradition is one that started when I was just a baby. My mom and dad were a part of the military, so they were never close to family. My mom would invite single military guys over so they could experience a great family holiday, even without they're loved ones near. Each year it evolved and grew into just extending a welcoming hand to those without family during the holidays. I will never forget this tradition and will continue it on with my family.

  5. I come from a large family (9 kids) and lived in the country side in NY State. My dad always went hunting for a turkey and my mom made the best herb dressing. We didn't go hungry on Thanksgiving, that's for sure. When I married John (Pam Park's dad) I was introduced to corn bread dressing and gravy with eggs in it. I love these new traditions and make both kinds of dressing. I hope my girls have introduced something from my traditions as their own.

  6. The large table (adult table and kid table) set to perfection ;). We always have the "pink stuff", sweet potato casserole, homemade rolls, and my grandmother's chocolate pie (just to name a few). ;).
At our house we have started a "thankful tree craft" tradition. I make the tree and. Leaves and then we fill the tree up with things we are thankful for ;).

  7. On Thanksgiving, like most Americans, our tradition is to eat, and eat alot. As much as I love the food and spend hours preparing it, my favorite tradition is one my husband started. Just as we sit down to eat, before we pray, each person gets to say what they are thankful for. Over the years I have been amazed and blessed by what people have shared.

  8. Of course my most memorable Thanksgivings are all the ones that I get to spend with you and the family. Hanging out all day eating a great dinner cooked by you, my sis, and me. Then heading out to the movies for a good laugh.
I am so very proud of you and your cookbook it looks incredible. Love you Auntie Dawn

  9. Hi Missy! I have so enjoyed reading your blog these past few months and am so excited to read your cookbook. It looks amazing! I've been thinking about a Thanksgiving tradition, and it took me a little bit... But thinking back, I remember going to my dad's mom's house and she would have all the normal Thanksgiving food, along with a big pot of posole stew and it was delicious!

Other Thanksgiving traditions include watching the Macy's parade, eating delicious food, reading a good book, and getting out the Christmas tree! We usually put it up that night or Friday morning, and get it all decorated!

  10. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I think that's mostly because ever since Brian and I got married we have to share Holidays, which is hard. So we spend Easter with Brian's family and Thanksgiving with mine. We get to my parents house and spend all day there. Even bringing comfy clothes for later on when we've clearly eaten too much!! The food, of course, is amazing!! From the pumpkin bread, to the turkey, to the cornbread stuffing (my fav) everything is so yummy!! And football is an essential part of completing the whole Thanksgiving day package at our house. The traditions include staples, such as pumpkin bread or my aunts chocolate pie...or playing a game of Uno. Spending time with family is the best part about it!! Over the years some of the traditions have changed but the heart of the Holiday remains the same, Family.

  11. My favorite tradition is just, simply, cooking all day long! Momma and I get up early and start it all while the Macy's Parade is on, and cook throughout the day :) It's fabulously fun and we look forward every year :)
